The Bachelor of Midwifery is within the Department of Health Practice/Te Hoe Ora ki Manawa which is based at Manawa in the Health Precinct / Te Papa Hauora. The undergraduate degree programme uses an innovative blended delivery model which is supported by the concept of a satellite delivery. The blended model includes both online learning and a mix of face-to-face teaching through hui ākonga and wānanga. This model provides flexibility and enables students to study within their own homes and communities.

  • To facilitate hui ākonga, undertake students’ assessments and provide supervision, guidance and pastoral care to students located in Mid/South Canterbury area which includes Ashburton and Timaru satellite.
  • To facilitate and teach face-to-face and on-line sessions as well as some teaching on wānanga held in Christchurch.
  • To facilitate practice opportunities
  • To liaise with practitioners in practice areas

Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako – Skills and experience:

  • Registered Midwife with current NZ Annual Practicing Certificate
  • A minimum of five years post registration clinical experience as a registered Midwife
  • Clinical and educational qualifications and skills that support teaching of midwifery
  • An interest in/experience using a range of teaching methods and technologies in a tertiary setting
  • Membership of NZ College of Midwives
  • A master’s degree (or working towards this) is required
  • Extensive midwifery clinical background
  • Good understanding of the socio-political context of midwifery in NZ
  • An Ara recognised teaching qualification (where an appointment is made without such a qualification, the appointee will be required to obtain an appropriate qualification within three years of appointment)
