Expression of Interest (EOI): Contractor for Midwifery Magazine Production, Writing & Media Liaison
The New Zealand College of Midwives (the College) is a membership organisation providing a collective voice and support for midwives throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate journalist to lead the content creation and production for our quarterly member newsletter. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape a publication that informs, inspires, and supports midwife members as health care professionals.
This role is ideal for someone who wants a part-time, adaptable schedule with a total commitment of approximately 100-120 hours spread over the 3-month production schedule. Work when it suits you, within agreed deadlines!
Scope of Work:
- Content Development: Researching, writing, and editing high-quality articles relevant to midwifery practice, education, and advocacy.
- Magazine Production: Managing the end-to-end production process, including layout coordination, contributor management, and publication deadlines.
- Creative Direction: Ensuring a visually engaging and reader-friendly publication.
- Media Liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact for media relations. Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, manage press releases and coordinate media inquiries.
Required skills:
- Strong writing & grammar skills with demonstrated experience in writing compelling content
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse range of contributors
- Adaptability & audience awareness
- Time management and organisation skills
- Excellent editorial and project management skills
Desirable skills:
- Experience in producing print or digital publications
- Strong understanding of midwifery and maternity care issues
- Experience in managing media communications, including press releases and media inquiries, and an ability to build and maintain effective relationships with journalists and media outlets
- Experience with Mailchimp and ability to publish e-newsletters in alternative months to the magazine production schedule
